When replacing toner in many Brother and some HP printers, you may notice that the assembly that you have removed from the printer is much larger than the cartridge that you have ready to insert.
For example, you may have a replacement cartridge that looks like this:
But what has come out of your printer looks more like this:
The first thing to do is to check to see if you have removed a drum/toner assembly instead of just a toner cartridge. In the example above, you can see a light green lever at the front left of the assembly (in some printers this is light blue).
Use the lever to release the old toner from the drum, click the new toner into place and re-insert the whole assembly into your printer.
